URVASHI SANWAL

My research goal is to understand how biological invasion is responsible for declining native biodiversity. Currently, I am working on southeast Australian natives, Acacia dealbataand Acacia mearnsii (Acacia complex) which have been widely introduced in India. I plan to carry out biogeographic comparisons to study ecological processes in native (South-eastern Australia) and introduced ranges (India)

I am interested in unraveling mechanisms behind the presence of multiple invaders in an ecosystem. I would be focusing on field experiments as well as manipulative greenhouse experiments, which would extensively deal with plant-soil feedbacks, resource fluctuations, litter dynamics and novel chemicals. Also I would be evaluating how genetic diversity contributes to invasiveness.
